After LHS
Spent 25 years with AT&T, which gave me multiple opportunities
for lots of technical and project management training. In
1998, I retired from AT&T; got too good a buy-out to pass it
up! After being retired for seven years, in a fit of boredom
during winter, I applied for a part-time teller job so I could
fund my Roth IRA. Ended up as a part-time licensed financial
specialist at U.S. Bank. Not sure how long I'll work this
time.Hearth & Home
Was married to Dick Hedden for 10 years, then Richard Kastrup
for 24. Was widowed in 2002 with no children of my own.
Currently have a significant other, Case Vendel, who also is a
widower. He has three children and seven grandkids, so I am
learning fast! Have one cat, Shadow, who thinks he's a dog
(hence the name). And I have purchased and plan to live
periodically in a new condo in Daytona Beach Shores, which is
on the barrier island and a block away from the beach and the
Intercoastal.
The Other Stuff
Did three years of volunteer work at the annual American Royal
Horse Show and BBQ. Now I'm a certified judge for the Kansas
City BBQ Society and, in the last four years, have judged BBQ
contests regionally as well as in Colorado, Arkansas and
Missouri. I get to eat championship BBQ and keep the
leftovers...what a deal! I also have taken about 25 cooking
classes at the Culinary Center in KC, and love to entertain,
garden and be outdoors. I also play bridge and have traveled a
lot, with plans to continue to do so. After my husband's
passing, I realized how rich in friends I was and reconnected
with some special classmates: Kathy Shepard Huskey, Barbara
Sheppard and Judy McConnell. We three plus 10 other friends
did a "double nickle" birthday celebration trip to Las Vegas a
few years ago. As they say, "What happens in Vegas stays in
Vegas!" I hope to stay healthy and maintain the great
friendships I have. I don't want to grow up much more; it's
more fun to be a kid.
My Memories of LHS
Have many fond memories of friends, football games and all the
LHS activities. Mrs. Maxwell making us run a mile is not
one of them! |
