Bob, Peggy and his classic car winner
After LHS
My plan was to attend KU and earn a degree, like most everyone
else. I had a lot of fun until 1968, when the U.S. government
took me away and I ended up in South Vietnam in the U.S. Army
Class of 1969, 25th Infantry. In 1970, I was free to go on
with my life...a breath of fresh air, but not as originally
planned. After that, I lived in Denver for 15 years; San Diego
for 10 years; Las Vegas for two years; and now in Connecticut
for the past 11 years.
Employment
Started in the car business, reluctantly, after
Vietnam. But the money was so good I have stayed in it for 36
years. Classic cars are my specialty now. Have not started my
career yet!
Hearth & Home
For the past 14 years, I've been married to Peggy,
who is younger than me and is the one who has all the
degrees. She is a senior project manager in information
technology for MetLife in Hartford. We live in the Connecticut
countryside with our three cats: Mars, Venus and Isis. I have
four grown kids, five grandchildren and two ex-wives.
The Other Stuff
I love to barbeque hickory smoked ribs that melt in
your mouth (my specialty!) and am a great wine lover. So far I
have had a colorful life with lots of life experiences. I have
owned 12 thoroughbred race horses, which ran in California at
Santa Anita, Hollywood Park and Del Mar, with one Marlboro Cup
champion. I love to vacation in Maui; have been there more
than 30 times. Kaanapali Beach is my favorite spot, at the KBH
Hotel, watching whales in February and March...my favorite
time of the year to be there. Back at home, I go to classic
car shows on Sundays. Gardening and mowing my lawn is
rewarding for me. I believe in Lipitor, baseball, classic cars
and the American Dream: $$$$$$. When I grow up, I'd like to
move to Maui, take a ride in an F-14 Tomcat and win a $400+
million lottery.
My Memories of LHS
Fond memories include those of coaches Walt
Gehlback and John Forbes of the Little Lions in 1964, and
Principal Dan Kahler for personally teaching me so I passed
the English class I failed (because of the knowledge Miss
Ruttan didn't teach me) without having to go to summer
school. I also think often of my best friend in school, Max
Strunk.
