... and now

After LHS
I attended KU, graduating in 1971 with a BS in Education,
Secondary Language Arts. Because of a low draft number (22), I
spent four years flying helicopters in the Air Force, mainly
in Spokane, Wash. I returned to KU to obtain an MBA and then
began my career in 1978 as a performance auditor with the
State of Kansas. I retired from being an information
technology professional in 2003, having completed a
25-year career with the state. It was an honor to serve as the
CIO for the State of Kansas for the last two years of my
career.
Employment
Helicopter Pilot, USAF 1971-1975
Performance Auditor, State of Kansas 1978-1984
Information Technology, 1984-2003
Hearth & Home
My wife, Harlanne, and I have two cats, and have become empty
nesters. She retired in 2006 from teaching reading at South
Junior High School in Lawrence for 17 years. Our children
include Jennifer, a sculptor; Matthew, a philosophy
professor; Andrew, an environmentalist/organic farmer;
Patrick, a songwriter, artist/performer; and Stuart, an
aspiring writer. We added our first granddaughter, Karis, in
August 2006, and a grandson, Lucas, in April 2008.
The Other Stuff
Since retirement I have been able to play my drums more
frequently (a pastime that I have always tried to maintain). I
have done volunteer work for my church's food pantry, helped
celebrate Lawrence's 150th Birthday, read for Audio Reader,
and coordinated our 40th LHS reunion. I would enjoy taking
some courses at KU, and my wife and I hope to travel
internationally.
My Memories of LHS
My fond memories are primarily of joking with friends. But I
also was pleased to play rock 'n roll in the Monks and the
Clansmen. And I enjoyed marching band. Not-so-fond memories?
For the moment, I can't remember many of those. Hopefully,
that is not an acute condition! |
