After LHS
After graduating from LHS, I earned both a bachelor's and a
master's degree in education from KU.
Employment
I taught fifth grade for five years in Lawrence before staying
home with my children. After that, I eased back into the world
of work by substitute teaching and working part time at
KU. The job I enjoyed most was my eight years as office
manager for KU's Art History Department. When I left KU, I was
the associate director of the doctoral program in the School
of Business. Currently, I'm working as an academic counselor
in the School of Business at Oklahoma State University. It's
my first experience with undergraduates, and I'm finding them
quite interesting. One of my job duties is to teach a freshman
orientation class, where I'm learning more than I care to know
about the habits of college freshmen.
Hearth & Home
After living in and around Lawrence since 9th grade, in the
fall of 2003 I moved to Stillwater, Okla., to join my
significant other, John, who is the president of the local
Chamber of Commerce there. The most difficult part of the move
has been missing my children and grandchildren, all of whom
live in rural Douglas County. Justin and Amy have twin boys
who are four years old, and Julie and Brian have an 8-month
old son. I make it back to Lawrence about once a month to make
sure those little boys remember me. John and I plan to return
to Lawrence when he retires.
The Other Stuff
I love to knit, garden and read. John and I talk about
traveling, but it seems most of our trips involve visiting our
children. He has daughters in Denver and San Antonio, so we're
quite familiar with the highways of Kansas, Colorado and
Texas. But we also have managed to take trips to Mississippi,
Hawaii, Florida and Las Vegas during the past couple of
years. Oklahoma provides us with some great golfing and
boating, as well. |
