After LHS
I took several advanced computer classes
at Washburn University, attended
temporo-mandibular joint
(TMJ) computer classes in Minnesota, and
took some management courses for my position at the dental
office.
Employment
I worked in the dental field for 23
years, being a chair-side assistant for 15 years and an office
manager for eight years. I also was active in our own business
before we sold it in 1998. Jim retired after we sold our
business, but got bored. So he renewed his real estate license
and became active in a new subdivision that Bill Rowland
(class of '65) was developing. Jim now does the home sales and
marketing for the subdivision, Miller's Glen, and I am active
in the social events of the homeowners association there.
Hearth & Home
Jim and I will celebrate 40 years of
marriage on Nov. 25, 2006. I think someone owes us $50 on a
bet that it wouldn't last five years. Well, HA HA!! Our
daughter Kimberly, her husband Ayhan, and their three
beautiful daughters—Olivia, 6; Eden, 4; and Ava, 1—live in
Seattle. They're way too far away, but we talk to them every
week and get to see them two or three times a year. My biggest
award or honor is being married to Jim, and having our
daughter and three grand-daughters.
The Other Stuff
As some of you may know, I have had
diabetes since high school. It finally took its toll in 1999,
when I had total kidney failure and a heart attack. I was on
dialysis for two years while waiting on the transplant list at
KU Medical Center. Through a miracle, I received a dual
kidney/pancreas transplant on Aug. 3, 2001. What a deal! It
was like receiving a new lease on life. No more shots or
dialysis. Jim and I now are able to travel like we had always
wanted to do. Last year we took a 14-day European cruise, and
next March we are heading through the Panama Canal and five
other ports leading up to San Diego. When not traveling, I
help people who are on dialysis and are considering kidney
transplants, and have given talks at the local dialysis center
about my transplant experience. What do I still want to do?
Live long enough to grow up.
My Memories of LHS
My memories are of the people I met and
the fun I had, forming the basis of the long-term friendships
that I still have. I know there must have been some things I
didn't like back then, but now I don't even remember them. Am
looking forward to seeing everyone!! |
