Employment
Currently I am an attorney in private practice and a
shareholder in the firm Davis, Champ & Associates in Tulsa. My
practice areas include civil rights litigation in employment
discrimination; oil and gas; real estate; and a mix of
"other." Prior to my law practice, I worked in the oil and gas
industry for 16 years, first in Denver and then in Tulsa. I
also own a very small oil and gas company, which dabbles
in acquiring minerals and participating in drilling.
Hearth & Home
I've been married for 32 years to Rhona Thorington (LHS class
of 1971), who is a fantastic wife and mother (known as the
"Donna Reed" of neighborhood) as well as an occupational
therapist for children with disabilities. We have three
children: Josh, 27, who finally graduated from OU and now is
gainfully employed; Todd, 26, who we adopted from Korea and is
a musician; and Robin, 23, who is a senior at Oklahoma State.
The Other Stuff
Currently I serve on the Tulsa Human Rights Commission, and am
a member of the Oklahoma Bar, Kansas Bar and Cherokee Nation
Bar. I volunteer for Kirk Karpenters, a group that builds
wheelchair ramps for indigent families to give them easier
access outside their homes.
For the past 12 years, I've been a monthly volunteer as a
chapel speaker for the John 3:16 Mission for the Homeless. My
hobbies include gardening, running, racketball, investments,
occasional snow skiing, and being a fuddy duddy. In fact, I've
been voted "Fuddy Duddy of the Year" by my oldest children for
the past eight years, which was ratified by my youngest child
four years ago. My wife and I recently completed our dream
vacation of a 16-day sailing cruise from Athens to several of
the Greek Islands, Sicily, and up the Amalfi Coast to Rome. I
hope I never grow up. But if I do, I probably will be too old
to do what I still want to do when I grow up.
My Memories of LHS
I recall many things about LHS, including young faces walking
the halls; being better known as "Diane's brother;" the first
15 minutes of running around the LHS track and the
cross-country hills of Lawrence (fondly) and the last 1-3/4
hours running around the LHS track and the cross-country hills
of Lawrence (not so fondly); flipping pennies in the halls
after lunch; Friday night football; Binns' American
Government, Ketchum's English, and Racy's Math classes; Doug
Milroy's death and wondering why; and feeling shy about asking
girls out for dates. |
