After LHS
I attended KU for one year. Later I graduated from nursing school in Texas, and have been a registered nurse the past 25 years. Three years prior to becoming an RN, I worked as a
licensed vocational (or practical) nurse.

Employment
More than 23 years ago, I started my own home health agency. At first I saw clients in the field, while doing administrative work. Now, I spend virtually all my time in the office, dealing with money issues, ethical questions, licensure requirements and personnel problems. When I really want to have fun, I ride along with one of the nurses on a visit to a client and remember why I got into this field in the first place. Another thing I'm proud of is being appointed by the speaker of the House in Texas to be a resource consultant to the state's Nurse Education Workgroup for the Task Force on Cancer.

Hearth & Home
I've been married to Louis Cartall, MD, for the past 23 years. I have two children, Teri and Mary Kathleen, from my previous marriage to Jim Gillispie (class of 1965), if you are wondering. My two grandsons from Mary are the loves of my life; they call me Ya Ya. Louis and I have two Golden retrievers, Katie and Mickey.

The Other Stuff
For fun, I like to exercise so that my measurements do not exceed my age. I also like to spend time with my two grandsons, who make exercise seem like a walk in the park. I have traveled extensively and hope to do more, especially after retirement. And I am enjoying my old friends, keeping connected in our golden years. I really appreciate the fact that we all still want to see each other and give each other advice—wanted or not. But mostly we respect each other for being the women we have become.

My Memories of LHS
I have fond memories of my friends...the laughter, the slumber parties at the home of Gayle Kurata and at the Bigsby farm where we pulled pranks on those who went to sleep early, like stamping Nancy Maloney's forehead with the indelible milk carton stamp and placing Darlene Cheek's wet bra in the mailbox when it was freezing outside. But mostly I remember the feeling that life was always going to be that good. The bad times? What bad times?
