After LHS
After LHS, I attended KU. In 1968, I married Bill Hutchings
of Wilmette, Ill., and recently we celebrated our 40th
wedding anniversary.
Hearth & Home
Our daughter, Kristin, was born in 1971, and our son, Brent,
was born in 1974. Kristin and her husband, Matt, who is an
architect, live in Houston. They have blessed us with two
precious grandchildren, Madison, 7, and Grant, 5, who call
us "Mimi" and "Papa," which we love! Another special member
of the family is our adorable Shih-Tzu, Chloe, whose
brother, Dante, lives with Kristin's family. Bill and I have
been living in the Los Angeles area about six years and
really enjoy Southern California. It's the best climate and
most scenic of all the places we've lived. Malibu, Newport
Beach and Palm Desert are favorite places of ours, and
we try to get over to Las Vegas as much as we can. We also
enjoy seeing celebrities in and around Beverly Hills and
Hollywood. Through work, Bill got us tickets to The
Tonight Show a few years ago, and we always go to
Disneyland and Universal City when the grandkids come out to
visit. We also try to fly back to Texas about every two
months to visit our family. Chloe takes every trip back with
us; she's a big hit with the TSA people at LAX!
The Other Stuff
It's been quite a journey with my electrical
engineer husband...with many moves but also many treasured
friends along the way. Before L.A, we lived in Chicago,
Kansas City, Dallas, Houston and Atlanta and have built many
homes throughout our lives. For the past two years we've
been designing our retirement home, on which we hope to
start construction in the fall. Of all of the homes that
we've built, it will be the best by far. Since we will be
building in a golf community, we plan to play more golf and
also we want to take up kayaking. My hobbies are working in
our garden, volunteering, reading a good book, lunching with
friends, and decorating all of our homes. My most rewarding
time is when I am with my grandchildren and family. We also
have traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Hawaii,
and hope to travel to Europe after retirement.
My Memories of LHS
Most of my fondest memories of LHS are of my dear friends and
classmates: Mr. Ater's Data Processing class; all of the
football and basketball games; the time Linda T. and I wore
matching leopard dresses to school and someone from the
yearbook took our picture together by our locker; all of the
times we drove through Allen's Drive-In and around the
square with friends; and, of course, the Girls' Sport Show
and being on the winning Black team! Sad memories include
Doug Milroy's death; that horrible day when I was going to
5th period and heard about President Kennedy's assassination
over the intercom; and the loss of our football team's
winning streak at the Homecoming game of our senior year. |
