After LHS
After graduation and a short term at
Ft. Hays State, I married my husband, Ed, 40 years ago. I
never completed college, so most of my training has been from
the school of hard knocks and good 'ole common sense, which
ultimately led me to a successful career.
Employment
For 25 years I owned and operated my own real estate
brokerage, dealing in residential property, land development
and new home construction. During that time, I received
numerous real estate awards and served on the state
professional standards board. I sold the business when both my
mother and grandmother became ill at the same time. After both
passed away, I became the general manager of the water supply
system, which covered the City of Basehor and the rural areas
all the way up to Lansing. While doing that, I received the
"Manager of the Year" award from the state water association.
Several years ago, I retired.
Hearth & Home
Ed, who recently retired from the postal service, and I have
two children and four grandchildren. Our daughter, Kandee
(38), and her husband have a son, Brandon (7), and a daughter,
Olivia (1). Our son, Michael (36), and his wife and have a
son, Johnathan (11), and a daughter Katie (7). All four of our
grandchildren are beautiful and intelligent, plus are active
in sports and school activities. No doubt all of that came
from grandma!
The Other Stuff
Most of my time is spent with the grandchildren. We try to
attend as many of their activities as possible. Johnny is a
3-time national karate champion; plays football, soccer,
baseball and basketball; and is in the school band. Katie and
Brandon also play soccer. All are active in school plays
except Olivia, who is still too young. Ed and I try to travel
as much as possible and are planning a move. Still to do? So
many things that I couldn't begin to list them all.
My Memories of LHS
Fondly I remember cruising the square on a Saturday night;
slumber parties at Kay's and Karen's house; ignoring what was
taught in home ec, thinking I already knew everything;
computer class with Mr. Ater; and most of all, Government
class (loved it). |
