After LHS
My life since high school has been rich with love...no need
for fancy degrees. However, my goal has always been to get
some sort of college degree before I died. I was married to a
very famous person (in his field) whose life was dedicated to
academia. So I was compelled to get at least an Associate's
Degree, which I finally did in 2001!
Employment
I worked for "Ma Bell" in various capacities for 30 years in
Kansas, Missouri and Minnesota. I will be forever grateful to
"Ma" because I was able to retire with a full pension at age
53. After retirement, I started tutoring accounting students
at a community college and discovered I missed my calling; I
should have been a teacher. I love it! But then again, if I'd
been a teacher for 30 years, maybe I'd have been burned out by
now. Instead, I have discovered true fulfillment after
retirement. What better way to stay young?!
Hearth & Home
I lost my husband, my soul mate, this past December. My two
daughters, Virginia and Lori (from a previous marriage),
proved themselves to be very strong, supportive women. I could
not have survived my loss without them, and I am so proud of
them. Virginia has given me three wonderful granddaughters.
All she ever wanted to be was a mother, so she made me a
grandmother at 39. Now, that granddaughter is 18, and I just
bought her her first car and paid her tuition for her first
year of college. Time...it DOES fly, eh?!
The Other Stuff
While it has been such great fun to read about everyone's
accomplishments, I can only brag about having a life blessed
with the love of wonderful children, a wonderful family, a
wonderful husband and wonderful friends. And, because of my
husband, I was fortunate to travel to many places in this
world and experience many different cultures. Eventually, I
plan to get back to my hobbies of scrapbooking and quilting.
But for now, since my husband's death, I am committed to being
a "mother" to his last group of graduate students, who are
from India and China, and to fundraising for the
David J.W. Grant Fellowship at the University of Minnesota
(hint, hint--"Google" his name). I live by this philosophy: I
will always accept and respond to my responsibilities, but I
will NEVER grow up!
My Memories of LHS
I have very fond memories of Mr. Wright. He made a comment on
one of my papers that has sustained me all my life. But, due
to my shyness and lack of self confidence, I always seemed to
be on the "fringe" of things back in high school. |
