Nancy and the whole family
After LHS
I graduated from KU with a BS in Education in 1970. After that I
received a masters degree in reading from the University of
Northern Colorado in 1990.
Employment
After 25 years of teaching 1st through 7th grades, I retired
from teaching in Cherry Creek Schools. Two years ago I ran
for—and was elected—Colorado
state representative for the 41st District. I'm up for
re-election this coming November.
Hearth & Home
My husband, Terry, and I celebrated our 35th wedding
anniversary in June 2006. We live in Aurora, Colo., and have a
7-year-old black lab named KJ (Kansas Jayhawks). We have two
grown married sons: Geoff, who lives with wife Lindsay in
Branson, Mo., where he is a director of a one of the
Kanakuk Kamps;
and Matt, who lives with wife Sarah in Lawrence, where
he is a 3rd year law student at Washburn University and she is
a 4th grade teacher in Desoto. They are expecting our first
grandchild in April 2007. Both of my parents, Carl and Dorothy
Knox are no longer living, but we visit my sister Carladyne
Conyers, who still lives in Lawrence.
The Other Stuff
I guess I've always been oriented towards giving back to my
community whenever possible and in whatever ways I can. I've
been fortunate to receive a number of honors over the years,
including: 2003 Colorado Mother of the Year; 2003 Patriotic
Teacher of the Year; 2006 University of Colorado Health
Science Center Legislator of the Year; 2006 Community Colleges
of Colorado Legislator of the Year; and 2006 Colorado
Behavioral Healthcare Council Legislator of Merit. Serving as
a Colorado state representative is a full-time "part-time"
job, mainly because I serve on the such groups as the
Commission for Higher Education; Commission for Early
Childhood and School Readiness; and the Colorado government's
Alignment Council for Education and the Workforce Development
Council. Still, we try to find time to travel, ski and hike in
the mountains as often when we can. Also, cheering for the
Jayhawks is always on our list of hobbies!
My Memories of LHS
Great memories include Don Binns' government classes, pep
club, the Girls Sports Show, selling ads for journalism (and
always making a stop at Griff's while doing it). I also
remember (not so fondly) the day President Kennedy was
assassinated, and losing the homecoming football game our
senior year. Luckily, not too many other bad memories come to
mind! |
