After LHS
After high school, I went to Kansas State Teacher's College in
Emporia for two years and then decided to try my hand at
working. So I moved to Topeka and went to work for Columbian
Title and Trust Company as a closing officer for the next 13
years. After that I was a closing officer for Brosius and
Meyer Real Estate for 1½ years. Then we moved to Hoyt, Kan.,
two months before Brian was born, and have lived here for 23
years. After the birth of Brian, I temporarily retired from
the business world. But when Brian was 6 months old, I started
an in-home daycare business, which I ran for 10 years.
Employment
I now work for Royal Valley Elementary School in Hoyt as a
secretary, which I have done for the past 13 years. I love my
job and wouldn't trade it for anything...unless it was to
retire permanently. Where else does one get Thanksgiving,
Christmas, spring break, seven weeks in the summer and SNOW
DAYS off!!! In addition to working at the school, I have been
the City Clerk of Hoyt for 22 years.
Hearth & Home
I have been married to my husband, John Bailey, for 27 years.
He works for Capitol Concrete in Topeka and has been the Fire
Chief of the Hoyt Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. We
have two sons: Brian, 22, who is attending Western Michigan
University in Kalamazoo on a football scholarship; and Eric,
19, who is attending Garden City (KS) Community College
on an athletic trainer scholarship.
The Other Stuff
We are very active in the community. When the boys were
growing up, we were active in 4-H, school activities and
church functions. I have been a member of Beta Sigma Phi
social sorority (not school affiliated) for 34 years, and have
been a member of FCE Extension Unit for 20 years. We try to go
to Kalamazoo and Garden City as often as we can for football
games and to visit the boys.
My Memories of LHS
My fondest memories of LHS are cruising Allen's Drive-In;
slumber parties; driving the square in my dad's VW packed with
girlfriends;
school dances; Friday square dancing in Dad Perry's class; the
Girls Sport Show; Mr. Denny's speech class; football and
basketball games; Pep Club; and, of course, my very dear
friends: Anita Ridenour, Julie Hines, Cindy Hall, Patty Hill,
Marsha Smith, Jeanette Sale, Pennie Welsh and Janet Marshall. My not-so-fond
memories are of President Kennedy being shot and Doug Milroy's
death. I wish I had studied harder and made better grades, and
had become more active in school organizations. I also wish I
had been more friendly and out-going and not so
judgmental. Hopefully I have changed over the last 40
years. Overall my high school years were great. |
