Memorial
services for David Allen Fowler, 59, Lawrence, will be
at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, at Rumsey-Yost Funeral
Home. A committal service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at
Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Mr. Fowler
died Saturday, June 23, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 4, 1947, in Lawrence, the son of
Clarence "Allen" and Rosie Brewster Fowler. He graduated
from Lawrence High School in 1966 and later received
training in computer programming and electronics
technology. He completed his electrician's
apprenticeship in 1977.
Mr. Fowler
served in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1971 on the USS
Meredith. He received a Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam
Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal in Korea
and a Meritorious Unit Commendation.
He was a
journeyman electrician and worked out of the
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW)
union shop in Topeka. He also worked for Norris Brothers
in Lawrence and in maintenance at Valley View nursing
home, Kansas University and Lawrence Paper Co. He was a
member of IBEW Local 226 in Topeka and Veterans of
Foreign Wars Post No. 852 in Lawrence.
He married
Donna Strohwitz. They divorced. He married Nancy Marie
Branson on Aug. 6, 1992, in Lawrence. She survives, of
the home. Other survivors include his parents, of
Linwood; two daughters, Melissa and Mary Fowler, both of
Lawrence; and a brother, Michael, Tonganoxie. The family
suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, sent
in care of the funeral home.
