James
Rollie (Jimmy) Shepard, fourth son of Ethelyn and Eugene
Shepard, was born Dec. 28, 1947. He received his education
in Lawrence, Kan., and upon graduation from Lawrence High School in
1966, he immediately joined the Air Force. While stationed in
Myrtle Beach, S.C., he met and married Mary Francis
Patterson. To this union was born two sons, James and Julian.
He was
united with St. James AME Church in Lawrence in 1964.
His time
in the Air Force was spent in Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Forbes
Air Force Base in Topeka; NKP, Thailand; Vance Air
Force base in Enid Okla.; Ramstein Air Force Base in
Germany, and Castle Air Force base in California. At the time
of his death, Jim held the rank of master sergeant.
Also at
the time of his death, Jim was
a student at Merced Junior College, working on a degree in
computer programming. He also was an artist and left many
beautiful paintings and drawings.
He
departed this life Oct. 27, 1981, while on a hunting trip in
the Sierra Mountains of California. Cause of death was
hypothermia.
He
leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Mary and sons James and
Julian; three brothers: Donald and wife Ennal, Stephen and
wife Ruth. and William and wife Alcenia; and one sister, Cleo
Jackson; his mother Ethelyn E. Shepard; and many aunts,
uncles. cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and
friends. |
