Artists and (soul) mates,
Ana and Phil
After LHS
Received a BA in Journalism and BA in Political Science; did
grad work in economics; and am a veteran of U.S. Army Security
Agency in Ethiopia, where I had the opportunity to spend
weekends working for the Peace Corps on a water project in
northern Eritrea.
Employment
Have been a professional working activist artist and author
since 1969; see my website.
To read about my newest book, see this
website.
Currently I am running for California State Assembly and just
won the primary, so see yet another
website.
Hearth & Home
Am married to Anastasia Nelson, who is another fine artist,
trained at the University of California, Davis. We have two
children: Sara, a graduate of the University of California,
Santa Clara (UCSC); and Joseph, who is currently attending
UCSC. In addition to a house and studio in Northern
California, we have two working cattle dogs, nine cats, three
Barbados Sheep, and four chihuahua-doxie mix dogs. And we have
a studio and flat in London.

The Other Stuff
I have run in more than 50 marathons. Currently I am a member
of a relay team that is training to run the 178-mile race from
Reno to Carson City and back to Reno, circling Lake Tahoe.
Honors and affiliations include: Judge, Fine Arts, California
State Fair; Judge, U.S, Treasury Department Poster Contest;
member, Bay Area Artists and Musicians for Peace; member, Vets
for Peace; member, Vets for Common Sense; member, Peace &
Justice Coalition; chairman, Tehama County Peace & Freedom
Party (also elected in California Central Committee);
representative, Department of Peace Campaign, Northern
California Region; and member, Butterfly Collective (Activist
Artists for Social Change), San Francisco. What I'd still like
to do: contribute to ending the occupation of Iraq and
Afghanistan, and contribute to the founding of George
Washington's dream, the U.S. Department of Peace.
My Memories of LHS
I would like to honor the memory of my friend and fellow
student, Connie Chavez, whom I miss greatly. I also miss
fellow cross country runner, Kenny Blackbird, and wonder where
he is. However, I don't miss the sloppy joes at the LHS
cafeteria. I will miss the reunion due to my campaign for
state assembly but will be thinking of y'all.

On the campaign trail for California State
Assembly 2006...good luck, Phil! |
