Employment
After a 35-year career in the trucking industry, I retired in
2001. In 1993 I started a home-based hobby/business in
woodworking. This business outgrew the 28x22 building next
to the house, so in 2005, I opened Paladin Woods LLC in
Lawrence. I now have six employees and build "affordable
custom cabinetry."
Hearth & Home
Bonny Leslie, from Lecompton, and I were married on Dec. 16,
1972. We have two daughters: Julie, who is 30, and Jennifer,
who is 26. Both attended school in the Perry-Lecompton
school district and went on to graduate from KU. Bonny
received her BSE from Emporia State University and her MSE
from Washburn University. She retired after teaching in the
Perry-Lecompton School district for 32 years. We adopted
Tobey (the dog), a Keeshond, after a few years of an empty
nest. We also have Kitty (the cat) who lives mostly outside
but occasionally graces us with her presence long enough to
rest, grab a meal and let us know she is the boss.
The Other Stuff
Currently I am on the board of trustees at Lecompton United
Methodist Church; head the Lecompton United Methodist Men's
Breakfast group; am a member of the Lecompton Volunteer
Corps; and enjoy hunting and fishing (and the lies
associated with both) and bragging about our daughters'
accomplishments. I ask the question often, "How old do you
have to be to feel like a grown up?" Most of the older
people I know say, "Not sure. We'll let you know if it
happens." Me too. I'm not sure I ever want to grow up!
My Memories of LHS
I have fond memories of going to football games at Haskell;
driving around the square; 17.9 cent gas wars; Allen's Drive
Inn; Drag Strip Road; sandbar parties; skipping school one
Friday and driving to Chicago with Tom Crum to see his
brother...the list goes on and on. One memory not so fondly
remembered is getting beaten up by Jim Underwood (didn't
everybody?). Had it coming, though; I started it. |
