Employment
I have turned in my Jayhawk for an Ichabod...well,
not really. But I have a new appreciation for Washburn
University. I have been the executive assistant to the
president of Washburn University Foundation almost three
years (as of July 2011). It is the most rewarding position I
have held and it’s wonderful to be back in the fundraising
business. I can’t imagine a more worthwhile job than helping
to create scholarships and improvements at the university
for upcoming students. Prior to the Washburn job, I worked at KU and
was the executive assistant for
University Communications and Government Relations.
The Other Stuff
Personally, my life has changed drastically in the
last year. Mom and Dad (Pauline and Clyde Bysom) are now
living with me. I have hired my younger son, Chris, formerly
of Austin, to provide care for them while I work in Topeka.
Dad is 93 and Mom is 88. Dad is still playing music every
opportunity he can; unfortunately Mom’s health is not as
good. I am very lucky to have friends who help them. Bruce
Roberts has become the brother I never had, as he takes Dad
to their “gigs” and is always supportive and happy to help
out if needed. Barbara Lauter and Glenna (Johnson) Jones
have helped out as well.
I have five darling
grandchildren and hope someday to retire and spend more time
with them. I have been blessed with wonderful family,
friends and co-workers. Life is good! As
far as what I want to do when I grow up? I'm doing what
I wanted to do when I was growing up.
My Memories of LHS
Fond memories: The people, of course! I feel like we were so
lucky to have attended high school at LHS. Other memories:
Having trouble staying awake in Mr. Denny's afternoon class!
I'm looking forward to the 45th class reunion in October,
but I wish more of our fellow classmates would attend our
reunions. Still, it will be great to visit with everyone who
does attend. |
