October 7-9, 2011
The Oread Hotel
Lawrence’s splendid new upscale hotel on The Hill
Preliminary Schedule & Info
(soon to be finalized, but don't wait:
REGISTER NOW!)
Friday, October 7
5-7 pm
Meet and greet classmates on the hotel’s 5th
Floor Terrace, which features spectacular views of the
Kaw River Valley, downtown Lawrence and the KU campus; a
cash bar; and a limited menu for al fresco dining.
The Terrace will be open to the public, so classmates will
congregate in one area of it; drinks on our own.
7-9 pm
Moving way down
under to the hotel’s popular nightclub, the party gets
private for classmates and guests only. The Cave
sports a sunken dance floor; state-of-the-art lighting and
sound system (with a DJ to play “our” music); cash bars;
limestone walls; and granite stands, tables and booths that
surround the central dance floor. No charge for
admittance; drinks on our own.
9 pm until
whenever
At 9:00, The
Cave opens to the public. Stay and dance the night away,
or move to one of the three underground lounges near by (the
Wine Bar, the Martini Bar or the Shot Bar)
for quiet, more intimate gatherings and conversations. Or go
upstairs to the spacious Bird Dog Bar and
restaurant by the hotel’s front lobby entrance, which has
huge flat-screen TVs, comfy couches, elevated bar tables and
a ground-level outdoor terrace. For casually elegant dining
and desserts,
try the hotel’s Five 21 Restaurant, open ‘til 11 pm.
Saturday, October 8
Morning and/or afternoon are on your own...or join in
organized group activities with classmates. Being planned
are golf and bowling outings and tours of museums and other
special places.

40th reunion dinner was $55/person)
Sunday, October 9
Activities to be
planned, such as hosting of a private area for breakfast
with classmates at the hotel and a memorial service for
classmates.
Ideas for things to do, places to go?
Lodging…Come Play The Oread
Way
The
Oread is Lawrence’s first “world-class” hotel…so now you
don’t have to go to KC, Chicago or elsewhere for a fabulous
weekend retreat. The hotel has 99 beautifully-appointed
guest rooms and suites, each with granite bathrooms, 50”
flat screen TVs, laptop docking stations and complimentary
wifi. Other amenities include a day spa and convenient
underground valet parking. For more information, check
out the hotel’s
website.
Room reservations: We have
reserved a block of 30 rooms (20 Kings & 10 Queen doubles)
for attendees at a cost of $161 a night (including
taxes/fees). To ensure a room within our block, DO NOT
RESERVE ONLINE. Instead, please call
877-263-6347 (or 785-843-1200 locally) and
specify LHS Class of 1966 #447450. But do it NOW, by
Sept 1; the
hotel already is sold out for that weekend except for our
block of rooms.
Reunion Reservations
Details and information about the 45th LHS Class of
1966 Reunion Retreat Weekend, including how to officially
register to attend, was sent to classmates in July; another
update is scheduled to be sent in August. Altho we communicate primarily by email,
we also sent a mailing to those for whom we had only snail
mail addresses. If you haven't already done
so (and/or haven't been receiving email from us), please
send your current email address to
Bruce Roberts. Or, be sure to send Bruce your
current mailing address if you do not have email and would
like to receive reunion information via US mail.
Spread the word
When you see or communicate with a classmate, be sure
he/she knows about the reunion and this website for updates
and information. We promise lots of fun for all during a
glorious Fall 2011 weekend in Lawrence, seeing old friends
and reminiscing about "the good ole days" (yes, we are
that old, at least, biologically). So mark your calendar,
REGISTER NOW,
and plan to be here! |
