I attended all
the events except the tours. That reunion was one of the
top five best times of my life (so far). No, I
can’t/won’t tell you what the other four were. A real
plus that no one mentioned to me was a dearth of
smoking! I’ll be more than ready to do it again in five
years. Ya’ll too? People who didn't attend that I would
have liked to see: The Mersmen twins, Sam Logan, Nancy
Dolan and Sharon Martin. |

I attended the
parade, memorial service and Saturday night banquet.
Seeing my classmates was a real pleasure and exciting
time. My most unique experience was the fact that I did
not get my 1966 yearbook until 12 years later, so I took
it with me and had it autographed at our 40th reunion. I
also still had my class ring, which I have given to our
daughter who is in her sophomore year at LHS. A lot of
us Pinkney school kids were there at the reunion. We
were kids that had started in kindergarten together and
continued all the way to 12th grade. My biggest surprise
was to see Patty (Trish) Garland. We had/still have a
certain bond that cannot be broken. I vote for having
the next reunion in five years. Ten years we would be
pushing 70. There are some people, bless their sweet
hearts, who don't even know their own names at that age.
People who didn't attend that I would have liked to see:
Stevie Howard, Tommye Collier, Donald Stogsdill, Gaila
Folk and Carolyn Shrable. |

Greatest reunion yet. The planning
committee outdid themselves and this website is the
best! What fun it was!!!!!!!!! I do wish Pat Hill, Kathy
Maloney, Gaila Folk, Don Stogsdill and Julie Hines would
have attended the reunion. Maybe next time??? |

I participated
in the float decoration party (was last to show up and
the last to leave!), Knights of Columbus decoration
party, LHS Homecoming Parade, the Friday tailgate party,
the Saturday night dinner and dance, and the after-party
at Set 'em Up Jack's. I was quite surprised after 38
years away from Lawrence that the class of '66 still
knows how to party! What a great bunch of classmates!
Everyone was much friendlier at the reunion than in high
school. Maybe the alcohol had something to do with
that. I was at the tailgate party, trying to recognize
anyone and feeling kind of
uncomfortable. Luckily, we all had an ID badge on. My
memories started flooding back. Alcohol consumption was
increasing. Then, boom! My memory came back. Max Strunk
said, "Do you remember that guy?" I said, "No." He said,
"You used to race go-karts with him." Then, bam! I
remembered Mike Koehler. We reminisced, laughing about
racing go-karts and drag-racing at every stop light on
the square, and then cried about our Vietnam
experiences. The reunion dinner and dance was great! I
had feet that would not stop dancing. What a terrific
party! The only thing I didn't like about Saturday night
was drinking wine that was poured out of a box and put
into a small plastic cup. After the dinner and dance,
there was the Saturday night finale at Set 'em Up Jack's
just down the street. There we were, the remnants of the
class of '66 reunion, still partying and maintaining our
reputation--Bruce Roberts and his wife, Harlan; Mike
Koehler and his wife, Karen; and me and my wife,
Peggy. At 2 a.m., Set 'em Up Jack asked us to leave. We
all hugged, and that was the official end of the class
of '66 reunion Saturday night part (I think!). What a
fantastic experience...life-long memories. With six
hours to go, we made it to the KC airport with large
hangovers and wonderful memories of the class of '66
reunion. Thank you! I only wish David Anderson, Fred
Mersmann, Tom Mersmann, Connie Brown and John Stevens
would have been there, too. Hopefully we can do it again
in five years. |

What a great time everyone had! I agree with so many
of our classmates that it was the best reunion so
far. Can't wait till the next one. I would have
liked to have seen Julie Hines, Velma Adams, Don
Andrews, Ingrid Bliesner and Connie Brown. Sure do
hope they will attend the next one.

Let me share a little humor with my
fellow classmates, and maybe some of you will know
exactly what I am talking about. When I decided to
attend the 40th reunion, I started on a mission to lose
weight, only to find I wanted to eat everything in
sight. Going into countdown mode because the reunion was
just around the corner, I purchased a teeth whitening
kit. Would you believe I ended up sick and was unable to
use it as directed. Next I thought I should do something
with the hair, only to have it turn out pink. I began to
panic! Immediately I put on new color, praying that my
hair wouldn't fall out. It didn't and all went well. But
then I thought I needed some volumizing shampoo. Well,
the evening of the tailgate party I had the flattest
hair ever! Isn't that the way it goes? After all that, I
ended up being very happy to see old (ha ha) classmates. |

I really enjoyed the whole reunion, and went to almost
all of the reunion events since I was on the
committee. I hope we can do it all again in five years.
I didn't go to the after-party because my husband didn't
want to go. Next time I am going anyway! Thanks to Becky
Owens Kastrup for putting me up for three nights! We
worked on the reunion for a long time. Several of us
drove from out of town to be in on the planning. I
really liked getting to know the members of the
committee better; most of them I wasn't that close to in
high school. I found people to be softer around the
edges...much more easy-going and not worrying about all
the trivial things we used to worry about as
teenagers. I would have liked to have seen Chanette
Alexander; she was seen along the parade route, but
didn't join us at any of the events. I remember driving
around with her in her cute Karmann Ghia and the
fun we used to have in art class. Isn't it funny how
you
can remember almost everyone's name from high school,
but now I can't remember the name of someone I met an
hour ago?!?! Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. We have a
lot to be thankful for. |
